Dew Tour 2014

It was déjà vu for both the men and women in the Dew Tour 2014 superpipe today with Taylor Gold and Kelly Clark taking top honors, who both won the Sprint US Grand Prix at Copper Mountain last weekend.

Kelly Clark’s winning run

The ladies started it off early this morning on a firm, fast pipe and they took full advantage of it. 14-year-old Chloe Kim was definitely one of the highlights of the day, who displayed snowboarding well beyond her years with switch backside airs, a frontside 900 and easily some of the highest airs of anyone in the field. But it was Kelly’s tremendous halfpipe prowess and dominant 1080 that landed her on the podium once again. But the competitors are definitely hot on her heels with multiple 900s being put down today. It will definitely be an exciting season in women’s halfpipe.

Taylor Gold’s winning run

Right now, Taylor Gold cannot be stopped. Sneaking into the finals via the Dew Tour’s last chance qualifier and having to drop first, Taylor stomped his first run to a score of 90.5, meaning he had to wait for the entire event to see if he locked in the top spot. And he had reason to be nervous, this drop list was stacked with some of the top pipe riders in snowboarding like Danny Davis, Greg Bretz, Matt Ladley, and a vanguard of upcoming powerhouses like Ben Ferguson, Chase Josey and Ayumu Hirano.

Style was everything for both events, with many of the riders feeling the relief of a non-Olympic year and experimenting with some new runs, classic tricks and less spins. We’re anxious to see where all of these riders take halfpipe riding over the next several months, competitive snowboarding is definitely in a good place.
