Nine times out of ten, anything to do with “the edge” is horseshit. With terms like, “livin’ on the edge”, or “edgy”, or even that dude who calls himself The Edge, you don’t need to be plugged into the counterculture pipeline to understand the word serves little purpose.
In terms of snowboarding though, it is what allows us to grip the snow and make turns — a simple yet phenomenal invention. Have you ever wondered why your most powerful edge is associated with your toeside turn? Without getting into Newtonian law, it has everything to do with the way our bodies behave in relation to the way we stand on a snowboard. Hence, a super grip py toeside turn and often a less powerful, wishy-washy heelside carve.
You wouldn’t know it by looking at him, but JP Solberg is a clever cat. Along with the team of design engineers at YES., the Norwegian style samurai borrowed from an ancient construction technique that has all but disappeared. By creating a deeper sidecut on the heel side only, his board of choice engages in a much more powerful arc on said edge, and surprisingly enough, a board that rides switch much easier than standard designs. True twin shaped with a Cam-Rock profile, The Greats rules it all with unconventional authority. Added inspiration included in the form of topsheet graphics.
