Official release from the Chill Foundation:

The Chill Foundation is pleased to announce Alex Bornstein as its new executive director. Bornstein brings more than fifteen years of domestic and international non-profit experience to Chill, most recently as the chief operations officer for the Vermont Foodbank, which provides emergency food assistance and other hunger relief services.

“I couldn’t be more excited that Alex has agreed to lead The Chill Foundation,” said Donna Carpenter, CEO of Burton Snowboards and Founder/President of The Chill Foundation. “Alex’s extensive non-profit leadership experience, coupled with his background working in both domestic and international contexts, will enable The Chill Foundation to continue to grow and serve even more underserved youth around the world.”

As the executive director of Chill, Bornstein will oversee programs in 13 cities across North America as well as provide guidance and support to partner organizations in Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Japan, and Italy.

“I am proud to be joining an international non-profit organization that has positively impacted so many kids over the past twenty years.” Bornstein said. “Chill’s programming provides participants with an opportunity to experience the thrill of learning a challenging new board sport while learning and applying important life skills that will serve them well as they transition to adulthood. Thanks to the incredible support from donors and partner organizations, Chill is fortunate to be able to provide participants with multiple first-time experiences during each and every Chill session. Chill is poised for growth and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Chill’s mission is to provide opportunities for underserved youth to build self-esteem and life skills through snowboarding and other board sports including skateboarding, surfing, and stand-up paddle boarding. The organization’s programs focus on six weekly themes: Respect, Patience, Persistence, Courage, Responsibility, and Pride. Chill serves 1,200 kids between the ages of 10 and 18-years-old each year in North America and has impacted almost 20,000 kids since it was started in 1995 by Jake and Donna Carpenter, owners of Burton Snowboards.

The Foundation serves youth facing a multitude of challenges such as poverty, addiction, and mental health issues and gives them the chance to break boundaries and find their opportunities to be successful in life. More than that, Chill helps them look forward – to see beyond the circumstances of today and encourages them to focus on positive alternatives for the future.
