Josh Oxner blasts through, taking some snow with him….
Photos and words by Mike Thomas
Big snow touched down on Wolf Creek last week making for waist deep riding conditions yet again. As usual, the vortex of Wolf Creek Pass sucked out every last drop of the storm, making for nearly four feet of fresh over just a couple of days ad nights and then another eight inches on top from a smaller system that crept in time for the weekend. The flakes came in cold, dry and piled up high, igniting Wolf Creek back into the powder haven it is meant to serve as.

…and lands submerged in the blower stuff dreams are made of.

We rode all week, lapping up the new snow and then anxiously awaited a new storm that was supposed to come in and drop another couple feet by Tuesday. But for the first time this year, Mother Nature just didn’t cooperate as the storm only managed to produce a couple inches of new snow before getting blown right out. But with winds gusting fiercely for two days, the powder came in a different way, as we were able to find wind-loaded areas across the mountain. Though a bit slabby in spots, the transported powder made for surprisingly great conditions Tuesday and Wednesday this week. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take a powder day in any shape or form.

The North Face/Arbor/Smith rider Moss Halladay straight-lines a hallway.

It didn’t snow much Monday night, but the wind loaded things up quite nicely for Moss to throw a switch pow slash.

Moss takes a trip down memory lane, throwing a grab off a rock on Blueberry Hill he used to charge growing up.
