Mammoth Mountain, CA - The 2007/08 season in Mammoth’s Unbound Terrain Parks marks the mountain’s continued commitment to 90 acres of park terrain, the addition of all-new brand-name signature features and the implementation of a new pipe-building technique.

All-New Signature Features
For the first time at Mammoth, skiers and snowboarders will be able to ride features designed by their favorite industry companies. Designers from Quiksilver, Vans and Dragon Optical have let the creative juices flow on conceptual park features – and the Unbound crew is building these features from scratch. Building started last August on the Quiksilver feature, a large skate-inspired pyramid made of 100% steel and coated in clear Lexan plastic, which can be found in Main Park.

New Wonderland Park
Family Fun Terrain Park at Canyon Lodge has undergone a $250,000 renovation in preparation for this season. The park has been relocated from under Schoolyard Express to under Chair 7, on runs Hansel and Gretel, to decrease through-traffic and provide an additional 15 acres of park terrain. The new park, renamed “Wonderland Park,” remains focused on freestyle development. The Unbound crew worked closely with Mammoth’s Ski and Snowboard School to develop entry-level terrain that includes box tops that sit on the snow, short rail slides, banked turns, rollers and jumps. The 375-foot-long Mini Halfpipe has also been relocated. The walls of the Mini pipe remain 10 feet high, however the Unbound crew used a new technique in the re-build – instead of carving a dirt ditch out of the ground, the dirtwork was done above-ground. “This is a new way for us to build pipes,” said Oren Tanzer, director of Youth Action Sports. “We build mini-walls above the grade of the run, so it provides riders with more ride-able wall.” To accommodate snowmaking required for the pipe, 3,500 feet of plumbing and 25 snow guns have been added to the area.

Built for Progression
The addition of Wonderland Park, which triples the amount of beginner terrain, emphasizes Mammoth’s commitment to progression. The Unbound crew has designed its parks so that progressing riders can be more comfortable stepping up to new features. All three parks and pipes on the mountain, as well as rails and fun boxes, are built alike, differing only in size. The family parks, Wonderland and Disco, include features that are scaled-down versions of features in South Park and Main Park.

The Parks You Love
The Mammoth Unbound consists of 90 acres on eight runs. Three parks and pipes range in level from beginner to expert. The Unbound delivers 64 jibs, from low-to-the-snow box tops to 40-foot battleships, and 50 jumps, from baby rollers to huge 80-footers, in the consistent quality you’ve come to expect. Out of Main Lodge you’ll find Disco Park, Forest Trail, Main Park, the Super Pipe and the Super-Duper Pipe. In South Park riders will find the famous jump lines, as well as popular jib features such as the sideways lift towers and Bull Ride, which were introduced last season. South Park also includes an X-course course and the Jibs Galore rail run with new 2-foot, 4.5-foot and 8-foot bonk barrels crafted out of lift tower sections.

North America’s Top-Rated Halfpipes
Mammoth boasts one of the longest halfpipe seasons as it is often the first pipe to open and the last to close. Ranked #2 in North America by Transworld Snowboarding in 2006 and 2007, Mammoth was one of the first resorts to have a Super-Duper Pipe and is one of the few places in the world with all three sizes of halfpipes. The Mini Pipe at Wonderland Park offers 10-foot walls for beginners, the Super Pipe at Main Lodge features 18-foot competition-sized walls and the Super-Duper Pipe has unparalleled 22-foot walls.

2007/08 Team Riders
Mammoth is proud to be home to X-Games champions, Olympians and professionals who consistently push the limits of their sport. Mammoth Team skiers and snowboarders include: Mason Aguirre, Molly Aguirre, Chris Benchetler, Greg Bretz, Tommy Czeschin, Tara Dakides, Tyler Flanagan, Matt Hammer, Trevor Jacob, Danny Kass, Kristi Leskinen, Mercedes Nicoll, James Shoshone, Gabe Taylor and Eddie Wall.

Maintenance
With the addition of a new $250,000 Park Bully snowcat, the Unbound’s fleet now consists of nine park-specific cats. As always, the night crew of cat operators spends between 56 and 88 cat hours grooming Mammoth’s parks and pipes each night. “Every single snowflake in our terrain parks gets a tiller over it every night, even in storms,” said Tanzer. The snowcat fleet includes two Zaugg Pipe Monsters and a fork snowcat dedicated solely to jibs. The fork snowcat is equipped with specially designed hydraulic forks to lift jibs while rebuilding the feature. This means the Unbound crew can get jibs back in place quickly after a heavy snowfall.
