Mammoth's WCI Guest Photographer Superpost

----------------Leanne Pelosi's Wild West Coast Invitational-----------------

The Cinco de Mayo West Coast Invitational in Mammoth Mountain, CA last weekend drew some of the world’s best snowboarders to compete for over $30,000 in cash and prizes in two events: Superpipe on Friday and a Saturday night rail jam in the Village. Contest heavies like Giacomo Kratter, Yale Cousino and Mike Casanova showed up to ride with local heroes like Danny Kass, Kyle Clancy and the rest of Grenerds for a shred sesh of Mammoth proportions.

Zimmerman was there to capture all the snowboarding excitement on and off the hill, but the real action always goes down “in da club”—Fever in this case. In true Intrawest form, The Village’s Club Fever, Dublin’s and more offer plenty of choices to spend the after hours drinking and dancing the night away.

One of those other snowboard magazines is having some kind of so called "girl's superpark" this week, so Canadian superstar Leanne Pelosi and rest of the world famous Misschief Film crew were beginning to arrive in town. Leanne and the girls spent the day on the mountain shredding in the warm SoCal Sunshine.

Meanwhile, I'm still grounded from the hill with a nasty case of broken ribs—so I spent the day relaxing at the pool and working on my BS 180 pool to jacuzzi transfers. Nailed 'em. Luckily I wasn't alone, and I got a nice camera phone shot of halfpipe champion Molly Aguirre working on her tan.

Only the boys were allowed to compete in the rail jam, so the Misschief girls had the night off. And, since the The Last Days of the Digi Elph took place during the TELUS Fest in Whistler last month, I was still left cameraless. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I recruited Leanne Pelosi to be my official Special Guest Photographer for the evening. Leanne was rockin’ a brand spankin’ new Canon SD 630 in dire need of a proper break in. Lucky for us, my homies from Portland’s indamixrecords were in town to perform at Fever with Hieroglyphic’s own Pep Love after a warm up set before the rail jam. MYG and crew just got done with the now legendary SNOWBOARD Magazine Whistler Party, and Kable Rock, Shipwreck, Gold and the rest of the team showed up in Mammoth also to rock the house, PDX style. That’s what’s up. So with a rail jam to watch and a show to attend, Leanne, her camera and I went to work.

First stop was the Thirty Two Penthouse Party with the pimp patio overlooking the rail jizam. 32 head honcho Eddie Lee did it real big and secured the prime spot to watch the contest from, so Leanne and I headed up early to watch MYG and crew get things started. Tim Zimmerman was down in the trenches and popped off a nice shot of MYG and Shipwreck on the ones and twos.

Testing out the zoom feature. Not bad, not bad.

Logan Short was chillin' on the sofa getting ready for the contest. Leanne and I started taking bets on who would win; she had her money on Logan, and although I did tell Lucas Magoon earlier that I had my money on him, I was claiming Yale Cousino too so I can't really front and say I called it. I called it in Vegas though, forildo. Ask J1.

Soon the contest was underway, and the penthouse started to fill up with all the party people. Here's Asian Tony, Eddie Lee, and some dude whispering sweet nothings in Tony's ear.

After a while all the Misschief girls showed up and we had a certified rager in effect.

Grenade's Kevin "Hexi Mexi" Casillo made good use of my SNOWBOARD flask.

Annie Boulanger and Lexi Waite holdin' it down. Asian Tony background props with a Dorito.

While we mixed and mingled up top, Lucas Magoon was killing it down below and ended up taking home the cash money. Tim Zimmerman Photo. After it was all over, the party was quickly shut down with a little help from Village security.

So off to the next party it was, with Leanne and company leading the way. This is when I really let her take over, as I had a very important meeting at the bar to deal with.

MYG and the homies doin' it well.

Danny Kass showed up with the usual entourage.

Fabia looked fabulous as always.

Dingo!!!!!! That's Riiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhtttttt.

I don't even know these people. Does Leanne? Probably. Does it matter? No. Great Shot. Nice use of the low exposure Leanne. You killed it babe.

Casillo surfaced eventually, dressed to hesh with Glasses Kass there.

After about 8 solid hours of rock star status partying, we started to lose a few soldiers. Spencer O' Brian took it a little to far and almost got kicked out—but then Jedi mind tricked her way into the bathroom instead. I like your style girl. They ended up having one hell of a photo shoot in there.

Jacqui Berg gangsta steez. Dopeness. These go on forever...I'd love to share 'em all but I think everyone's seen enough of this for now. Big ups to Mammoth Mountain and MYG for another epic performance, and special thanks to Michelle Kass, Tim Zimmerman, Lucky Lopez and everyone else who made it all possible. I guess the party's offically not over anymore. I took like three days off in Portland though, I swear!
