Whether it’s surfing or snowboarding there is no doubt you can shred all year round. But when you want to do it outside of the sports’ natural season a big effort comes into play and only the most passionate or the professionals are willing to commit.
That’s why when some friends told us to go surfing in Lake Tahoe as the mountain was closed due the rain, we thought they were out of their mind. However, when it comes to driving thousands of miles to go snowboarding and you get some extreme weather you don’t question it, you just go with the flow.
We rolled into a rainy Nevada with the littlest big city of Reno first on our stops from Utah’s summer. We decided to do a little gambling before breaking the barrier into California.

Arriving at Squaw Valley with absolutely no plans and feeling as gypsy as we have ever felt before. We met up with Kara, an amazing local snowboard coach, whom thankfully took good care of us. So with her and the addition of some good riders and friends that happened to be in the area, we had one of those unexpected and unbelievable fun nights, and an awesome sunny park day at Squaw to follow.
Bevan Hall and Stefani Nurdig from New Zealand, Sarka Pancochova from the Czech Republic, Jeremy Coutier from Quebec, Yale Cusino from the East Coast and of course Seth Hill along with many others were sending it, not just on the main park run but also in the extra large set up that the mountain happened to have these days.
The highlight was the perfectly landed cab 10 double cork that Seth put down in front of our faces. I was standing on the knuckle with the well-know photographer Ryan Hughes and we couldn’t help but put our hands together to celebrate the trick of the day along with Sarka’s massive underflip 540.
Hot laps through the park brought an end to the amazing day, and without even realizing it we were sitting on last chair, all of us excited about getting back on the slopes tomorrow.
