The 2013 Red Bull Illume Winner Award Ceremony is almost here. On August 29, against the backdrop of Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong, Red Bull will unveil the top 50 images from the best action sports photographers from around the world.

The photographers will be competing in 10 categories: Close up, energy, experimental, illumination, lifestyle by Leica, new creativity, playground, sequence, spirit and wings, with an overall winner taking home bragging rights, a new Leica S camera and a broncolor Move Outdoor kit as well as Sun-Sniper gear worth over $2,500. The category winners don’t go home empty handed either. Each of the ten winners will receive a Leica X2, a broncolor Para 88 P kit and an assortment of Sun-Sniper gear.
Since we here at Snowboard Mag are huge fans of photography, especially snowboard photography, we thought we would let our lucky readers scope out the 30 snowboard images that are in the running to win the 2013 Red Bull Illume.

Each one of these images is a selection of shortlisted images from the top 250 images submitted to the 2013 Red Bull Illume Image Quest. Quite the feat if you ask us! Why you ask? Well let’s check out this year’s Red Bull Illume by the numbers.
Red Bull Illume 2013 by the numbers:
Red Bull received a total of 28,257 images, almost 25% more than the 2012 Red Bull Illume Image Quest.
A total of 6,417 different photographers submitted images, an increase of 50% from 2010.
Photographers from 124 countries submitted images, the top three being USA, Brazil and United Kingdom.
The most popular category was Playground, which received a total of 4,608 images followed by Energy with 3,699 images.
Roughly a third of the total submissions were submitted in the final 36 hours of the entry period.
A huge congratulations to all the photographers who made the top 250 list. As you can see above, making this list is similar to being knighted by the Queen of England. Well, maybe not that tough, but definitely a close second.
