Girls are really sensitive. Sometimes I will be talking to a girl and she will just start crying out of nowhere. For a while I just thought I had that affect on women, they spend an hour with me and it’s somehow emotionally damaging. It probably is to some degree, but what it boils down to is that women and men just have different ways of dealing with a lot of things. Some chicks chew and shoot guns when they’re pissed, but that’s gross, so I pretend it’s not reality.
Some women direct their emotions into being creative, and that’s probably why some of my favorite artists where born with out a twig and berry’s setup downstairs. Lets just go ahead and be honest, a feminine touch and woman’s perspective is usually needed, and in most cases reigns supreme.
In a day and age where women are allowed to be themselves in this country, we have seen an explosion of gifted female artist on the scene, so being the progressive platform to positive progression we are, we decided it was time for a lady Fart. So I would like to welcome Volcom Girls Senior Graphic Artist Emily Hoy to the ranks.
Emily and Volcom you’ve been Art Farted
Girls' snowboarding has really changed in the last couple of years; dudes and chicks kind of look the same now. Is it comforting as an artist and a woman to not have to design products that are just covered in dolphins, rainbows, and balloons?
What?! Dolphins, double rainbows and kitties rule! Balloons aren't very "green".
Your work on the artist series pieces looks like a futuristic collage of sorts, what's the inspiration behind the art? My guess is a Clockwork Orange and Water World.
(Laughs) Yeah maybe that but a little less violent! In the art, somewhere in the mix, it reads "sonic sunsets over chanting horizons". The sky paints a new picture everyday. People that go about chanting and carrying on should stop and gaze at the sonic sunset once in awhile, be in the moment and remember what the Native Americans once taught us about how important our connection with the earth is...that's what she said!
I remember in 95 the Volcom dudes where at Hood selling T-shirts out of a van, and now they are one of the leaders in the game, what's it like to work with such a respected brand in the industry?
Volcom, Volcom, Volcom! If I were a cheerleader, Volcom would be my team of humble, positive, FUN and talented people! I love it!
Girls are always worried about their feminine sent, at least that's what commercials say, do you include some sort of self releasing perfume packets in your design? You don't want to attract bears.
Yes...I like my designs to have bits of real panther in them to scare away any bears.
Being Art Farted is a pretty prestigious accolade within our industry, how do you feel being the first woman to be Farted, do you feel like Susan B Anthony? She's one of the Golden Girls right?
Wow...the first, how rad! Susan B who? (Laughs) just kidding! I actually feel like a Golden Girl eating cheesecake at midnight in my silk pj's.
