With Wednesday’s men’s and women’s semifinals canceled, the typical slopestyle format was altered. Where Friday’s finals would traditionally have been comprised of those those made it through semis taking three runs each, all riders in the field took two runs today. With $45,000 going to the top spot, the day was all business.

Women’s slopestyle finals kicked off at 9 am on a firm course under low light but given the day’s forecast of high temps and blue skies, it was only a matter of time before everything softened up. The ladies were launching well past the knuckle due to the icy landings and takeoffs, leaving those who strung together a clean run with a clear shot at the podium. Young Hailey Langland continued to impress with her rail abilities, Cheryl Maas sent it, and Jamie Anderson clinched her fifth Burton US Open title in dominant fashion.

After posting an 89.75 to take the lead on his first run, Kyle Mack’s anxiety deepened with every rider that made it past the final jump. As the afternoon continued, temperatures rose, landings softened, and it became more and more difficult to post a score to threaten Mack’s spot atop the podium. The SPT crew was raking the course after every run to mitigate the deteriorating conditions, but only so much could be done. Despite the soft snow, riders were still able to put down some serious tricks that landed Eric Beauchemin and Seb Toots in second and third, respectively. The win marked Mack’s first US Open title, and he was definitely stoked until he was presented a bottle of sparkling cider in lieu of champagne. You’ll get there soon homie.
