From the press release:
"Winter sport enthusiasts have patiently polished up their skis and snowboards, awaiting the debut of Liberty University’s year-round ski slope. After nearly a year of anticipation, the wait is over. On Aug. 29, LU will hold a grand opening ceremony for the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre. The action begins with pro riders from the U.S. and U.K. performing big-air stunts on the slope’s freestyle features. Following the extreme expo, guests are invited to ski, snowboard and tube down Liberty Mountain. On-site vendors will also be available, offering food, sportswear and accessories.
LU’s synthetic ski slope features Snowflex, the most innovative technology in the snow sports industry. Originating in Europe, Snowflex will debut on U.S. soil at Liberty’s high-performance facility.
Invented by Brian Thomas of Briton Engineering, Snowflex is a multi-layer, synthetic material that simulates the effects of snow, allowing maximum speed and edge control for turns. With the help of small misting devices, Snowflex stays moist, giving it the slip and grip of real snow. Extra padding and support enhances the most extreme maneuvers and stunts, culminating in the ultimate adventure.
Although mountain ski resorts are only accessible during cold weather months, the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre will be accessible during all four seasons, day and night.
While on LU’s campus, prospective students, current students, alumni and their families can spend quality time together, taking full advantage of everything the slope offers, including skiing, snowboarding and tubing.
Equipped with an elevated cornice drop, gravity-defying kickers, slick rails and a colossal quarter pipe, riders experience many of the freestyle elements found at a winter resort. Thanks to Snowflex’s advanced technology, these features will never melt or change shape."
