SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (January 16, 2015) – Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort will host the first stop of the Subaru Freeride Series Feb. 4-8, 2015. The event will be showcased to a global audience via HD Live Webcast celebrating 18 years of big mountain ski and snowboard competitions. Event organizers are thrilled to announce the recent partnership with Sony’s Action Cam. With advanced SteadyShot technology and wind noise reduction, Sony’s Action Cam is an ideal partner to capture amazing first-person footage from the world’s greatest athletes during competition on the most respected mountains in North America.

Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is one of the most iconic big mountain resorts in the world and is located in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon. Located just 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport, Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort is North America’s most accessible resort destination. Snowbird averages approximately 500 inches of low-density, “dry” Utah powder annually thanks to the Great Salt Lake’s geographical phenomenon called Lake Effect. Venues like Baldy and Silver Fox offer athletes the best terrain in Utah for technical lines and big airs.

The event will include three days of big mountain ski and snowboard competition for both women and men. The first round of judging begins with the Qualifier day (Feb. 5) which is one of the only open registration events in the world. Top competitors from the Qualifier day will continue to the Semi-Finals (Feb. 6) with the pre-qualified athletes. The top percentage from semi-finals will vie for the championship by progressing to the Main Event Finals day (Feb. 7). The coveted Backcountry.com Sickbird Award will also be up-for-grabs at each location. To view the 2015 competitor list, click here.

As the premier North and South American big mountain competition series, this is an event for spectators as well as competitors. The Subaru WinterFest on the Tram Deck will host an array of sponsor expos, educational clinics, music, good beer and local food. The official after party will let loose at the State Room in downtown Salt Lake City after the final awards.

The Subaru Freeride Series will continue to Telluride, CO (March 4-8), Big Sky, MT (March 25-29) and a fourth stop TBA.
