Armed with a small Minolta courtesy of his parents, Phil Tifo moved from the Gatineau region of Quebec to Whistler for “a year out west” – a year that turned into fifteen. Tifo spent that first season shooting his friends, riders like: David Aubry, DCP and Gabe Authier in the Blackcomb pipe. Initially Tifo was snapping photos of his buddies just for fun, but seeing other photographer’s shots of them in the mags spurred him to get his own photos published.

Tifo now calls the Coastal Mountains of B.C. home and has shot everywhere from Alaska to the European Alps. His list of subjects has also grown to include riders like, “The Godfather” Martin Gallant, Mads Jonsson and Dave Short. He singles these three out because of how much fun he has shooting them. Outside of snowboarding Tifo has also had the opportunity to shoot rock climbing and surfing, and thanks to Jonaven Moore, he’s paddled around giant icebergs to shoot kayaking.
