Despite the late September sunshine, the snowboard industry and all of its cohorts took over Denver last weekend for Snowboard on the Block, a full-day melee of snowboard premieres, hair-raising metal concerts, massive gear sales, and the usual whiskey-fueled chaos. Athletes, brands, filmers, and fans came out in droves to get in on the early season madness, escaping the blazing Colorado sunshine to remind themselves winter is coming fast, and it’s going to be a damn good time. Multiple stages throughout the venue traded off hosting bands like Pentagram, Kadaver, and The Kinky Fingers, and screening this season’s round of awesome snowboard movies; films like Burton’s “Backcountry [SNOWBOARDING]“, Absinthe Film’s “Dopamine,” and Will Film For Food’s “Livin’,” generating serious stoke.

To top it off, Snowboard on the Block hosted a mid-day rail jam, bringing out the likes of (victor) Scotty Vine, Dylan Thompson, Ted Borland, Ozzy Henning, Tim Humphreys, Lucas Magoon, Nial Romanek, Andrew Brewer, and Dylan Alito to duke it out on a three-rail set up.

All in all, the event was a killer way to kick off what will no doubt be an insane 2013/14 season. A fitting welcome back to snow, and all the outrageous greatness that accompanies it.
