Closing weekend is bittersweet, there is no way around that. Despite the beating sun, cold beer and slush runs it is hard to shake that nearly everyone will have to wait over half a year to get back on a snowboard. Breckenridge, like many Colorado resorts, enjoyed the fruits of a bountiful snowfall and celebrated the season by hosting the inaugural Epic Pro Team Big Air Showdown, an airborne showcase of that had the crowd stoked all afternoon.

The festivities kicked off at 2:00pm on the massive bottom jump of the Freeway Terrain Park with the likes of Brett Esser, Zack Black, Benji Farrow and crew sending it alongside their skiing counterparts. About halfway through the session the sky began threatening snow that would have definitely slowed down the riders, but the weather held and allowed the riders to continue launching tandem rodeos, huge methods and double cork 1080s to the cheers of beverage induced onlookers.

Arguably the best part of the afternoon was the generous autograph session that took place at the base of Peak 8 that built a queue comparable to the lift line on a pow day. Olympians Possum Torr and Faye Gulini along with their fellow Epic Team members Eric Willett, Zack Black, Brett Esser and the rest of the ski team put their Herbie Hancock on everything from posters to helmets to foreheads during the hour-long signing. “Kids were hyped and it was cool to see that,” says Black, “it makes you more pumped to see how excited kids get. They don’t care who you are or what you can do, they’re just hyped to have somebody to look up to.”

The Epic Pro Team Big Air Showdown at Breckenridge went off without a hitch with everyone going home after a great season and plenty of autographs to put up on the wall. A huge thanks to Breckenridge and all of the riders for putting down a proper sendoff to summer.
