Well, it’s that time of year again on the West Coast when we unpack our snow gear and get the board out of the closet for Mammoth Mountain’s opening weekend. With top-to-bottom runs and a weekend of great music and parties, it was most definitely one of the best opening weekends in recent history – and awesome snow and awesome people made it that much better.

The first two days on hill were pretty rough as 20-40 mph winds blew in whiteout conditions. On the bright side, this meant we were going to be playing in much deeper snow. It also meant that Michael Gregory and the Mammoth Park crew would have plenty of snow to build a killer park after some much needed pow laps. Because of the incredible snow I was a little selfish and rode without my camera. No friends on a pow day and no cameras on the first pow day. Mammoth Unbound also unveiled two new blue tube jibs and held the Mophie Rail jam on the newest unbound features.

Besides this year’s great snow, Mammoth opening weekend was a time for all of us to welcome the winter with some good old fashion partying. With two nights of music including LA Riot, Sex Panther, and Wu Tang Clan’s RZA headlining, it was sure to bring out the best in all of us. A bunch of the industry’s best were out to enjoy the party thrown by John and Eric Jackson and their new jewelry line, Jax Union. Along with crazy, all night parties, Corey Smith dropped a Spring Break Snowboards Art show, Oakley premiered Horgasm – A Love Story and Lakanuki and Sushi Rei ensured there was plenty of fun off the snow.

Big thanks to Mammoth Unbound’s Michael Gregory and Eric Meyers for making sure I come back next year and a HUGE thanks to Mother Nature for gracing us with some pow.
