On The Road: Squaw-ters

Words & photos: Alba Pardo

After living out of the car for almost a week you stop making plans. You just go with the flow knowing that if the schedule changes it’s probably for the better. It was Squaw’s closing weekend, Alpine Meadows was looking good and many friends were still around. So with that good vibe we decided to stick around for a few more days.

Snow Park Technologies knows how to make a proper park, and with Alpine Meadows having a fast lapping terrain park we chose to do a double session: Squaw and Alpine in one day. With no time for breaks or rest we made the most out of the day and got shots with the Afterhours Crew (video). No Sunday funday is complete without a barbecue by Lake Tahoe: sausages, stunning views and drunken buddies playing horseshoes.

When you’re living the dream, a day off doesn’t really make sense, but with the mountain closed we decided to be tourists for few hours and take in all of Tahoe’s energy. A little skateboarding in Truckee with the rad young Tolby Miller, and a beautiful sunset over the horizon of Lake Tahoe presented what we thought would be a nice quiet end to our Monday…

As I said, the Sunset wasn’t the end we planned for our relaxing Monday. A last second phone call from the two Quebecois, Jeremy Cloutier and Zack Aller, and a trip to Incline Village was now on the books. What a better way to end our time in Tahoe than a nice locals night at the bowling ally. Our crew, now fully assembled with the two Canadians, retired for the night before sending it to Mammoth.

After all, Tahoe has given us everything we could have asked for on our first stop in California.
