Shaun White & Kaitlyn Farrington win Snowboard Superpipe at Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships
The Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships went off Saturday with the world’s best snowboarders hitting the Superpipe and Big Air jump in Breckenridge. Shaun White pulled out his best gravity-defying tricks to gain the Men’s Snowboard Superpipe Dew Cup, scoring a 95.25 in his first run to hold off the rest of the competitors. His run started with a huge backside air, followed by a frontside double cork 1080, a cab double cork 1080, a frontside stalefish 540, and his signature double McTwist 1260, ending with a stylish alley-oop backside rodeo. His technical prowess was enough to steal the title from last season’s Dew Cup champion Louie Vito, who placed second.
“I’m very excited,” said White after the contest. “I’m coming off a knee injury and a wrist surgery, and to ride like I did, it’s great. You always question how you’re going to feel when you come back in the first contest of the season. To get a win, with runs like that, it’s great.”
Directly before the men’s competition, the ladies took the stage for the Women’s Snowboard Superpipe Final. Kaitlyn Farrington won her second Dew Cup, scoring a solid 90.00 to blow away the competition. Her run included a backside 900, frontside 900, backside 540, alley-oop 540, straight air, and a frontside 720. Landing each rotation smoothly, Farrington placed a full 10 points above second place finisher Queralt Castellet.
I’m really excited because it’s the first big contest of the year,” said Farrington. “I was just stoked to land both of my runs and come out on top. It all came together for me.”
