Salt Lake City, Utah — SheJumps is proud to announce its first-ever backcountry skiing/riding video contest, the winner of which will receive a trip to Flow Tailgate Alaska in Valdez, Alaska, March 29 – April 7, 2013. The 1-5 minute video should demonstrate backcountry skiing/riding abilities, smart decision-making in the mountains, and creativity. Footage must be from the winter of 2012/2013 or 2011/2012. Submitted via the SheJumps.org facebook page, viedoes will be judged by an expert panel of men and women. The public will also have a say in the contest with two Runner Up prizes and a people’s choice award, supported generously by RAMP skis & snowboards and Flylow Gear. The deadline for entry is 1:00 a.m. MST on February 28, 2013.

The creation of this contest was a natural evolution of both organizations’ missions to join forces to help increase the presence of women skiers and riders in the Alaskan mountains. Flow Tailgate Alaska was created to “get more people up to Alaska to enjoy the best riding on Earth” (tailgatealaska.com). Now heading into the event’s sixth year, Flow Tailgate Alaska has become one of the most –attended events in winter sports, providing some of the most direct big-mountain access on the planet.

Similarly, SheJumps was founded in 2007 with the vision to create a community of“ambitious and compassionate women willing to take a ‘jump’ to reach their potential and help others to reach their own”. To this end, SheJumps has expanded to an international organization providing skills clinics, speaker series, and social events as well as an all-women’s social network to help like-minded women connect in outdoor sports, particularly skiing and snowboarding, and to promote these activities to underprivileged youth from all backgrounds. At its core, SheJumps strives to become a resource for women to access sports and push their limits in a way they would not have on their own.

Together, SheJumps and Flow Tailgate Alaska hope to inspire more women to make the journey, and to show them that skiing in Alaska is accessible while promoting education and backcountry safety.

Entrants do not have to be professional skiers or snowboarders, but they must be able to make turns, properly use their gear, and show that they can make smart decisions in the mountains. SheJumps and Flow Tailgate Alaska recognize that there are an underwhelming number of female leaders in big mountain skiing and riding, and the goal of this video contest is to bring up women in the sport and provide exposure for new talent.

Airfare for two to Anchorage from the continental US
Transportation from Anchorage to Valdez
Two All-Access Passes to TGAK
Tent accommodations at the festival

Swag bag from sponsors
