Woodward At Copper: Signal Week Recap!
Signal week is a wrap! Another amazing trip to Woodward at Copper has come to an end, but we for sure wont stop talking about it for a while! We got to hang with some of the raddest people on the planet, from new friends to old. Here is a recap of marketing director Marc Wierenga and marketing dude Joey Yorba and their journey to the summer shred-land that is Woodward at Copper!
"The trip started much to early on a saturday morning, with a traffic riddled drive to LAX. I'm still not 100% sure how there can be traffic at 6 am, but we sure found some. After having our bags tagged with very ominous pink labels that read, "Late Check-in" we started to get a bit nervous. It didn't seem like we were running that late, but we decided to take a nice leisurely sprint from the security check to our gate just in case. There Marc and I met up with team riders Spencer Link and Nick Sibayan, who were waiting casually at the gate. We had taken bets early on the ride to the airport on which one of them would be late…turns out it was us who would be late.
Fast forward a few hours and we meet up with Jake OE and Austen Granger at Denver international and the crew has officially been assembled. Time to make a 2 hour drive in 6 hours, unpack, settle in and let the party begin.
The next six days were a blur do to all the entertainment at hand in the Village at Copper Mt. We wanted to make this session special for all the campers so we developed a contest called Signal Showdown, a sort of scavenger hunt that got kids more involved in camp and gave them a chance to win some super rad prizes from a ton of companies. The camper's checklist was filled with weird and fun things to do to earn points and fight their way up the leader board. For the first few days we got up early, got a couple hours of snowboarding in and then did all sorts of various activities the rest of the day. The campers raced go karts with Spencer, Climbed the rock wall with Matt Guess, played ping pong with Nick Sibayan, and shredded the park with Jake and Austen. The kids seemed to have a blast with all of us and we were stoked to hang out.
Thursday we took a break from the shred sessions and decided to hit the links at the highest championship golf course in North America, Copper Creek. Copper Creek's highest tee box is at the 8,963' mark. It might be hard to breathe at that altitude, but it sure makes the golf ball fly! Rain threatened our game, but we pushed on. right up until the lightening started to hit the course and we hid at the first place we could find. It got sketchy and we called it for the day. fortunately 18 hours later it was clear skies and the back nine was ours! It was an insane way to end the week. We gathered for a group photo of all the campers wearing their Stance Socks in the barn, an amazing Pizza dinner, and a big party with all the campers and staff. It got weird, it got awesome, and it stayed that way the whole time.
We want to give a huge thank you to all of our friends that work at Woodward at Copper, to Stance Socks, Skullcandy, Vonzipper, and Celtek for donating prizes for the campers, and to all the campers who rocked camp alongside with us. It was a super rad experience and Signal is so proud to be a part of this camp since it's start three years ago. A huge thanks to Woodward's Rick and Phoebe for making an amazing camp and Morrison and Ben for putting it all together. We had a blast, here's to net year!"
