The first edition of the first ever Nike Snowboarding Snake and Hammers competition went down under the sunny skies of France on March 9th, 2013. Kevin Backstrom and Gerome Mathieu were on hand to stoke out the crew of riders who turned out to Châtel to compete. Luckily for Enzo Nilo, who managed to break his board before the finals, Gerome was feeling generous, and was kind enough to let him borrow his. Enzo went on to win the whole thing!

Generosity of fellow boarders was just one of the things that made the initial stop a smash success. With the unique format, riders had to weigh their options between making it down the course as quickly as possible, or tossing in technical tricks to subtract time for their score. It was apparent that doing tricks slowed the riders down, but judges rewarded that choice handsomely. It was not only Enzo’s speed, but a double front flip that landed him a top the podium and earned him a wildcard to the event in Montafon on March 23-24.

Snake and Hammers continues with the next stop at Mountain High, CA on March 16, 2013. Hope to see you there!
