Google “most legendary surfers.” Or just click this link. The top result is a list of the “10 Most Influential Surfers.” Spicoli made the cut, but Gerry Lopez didn’t. Pretty sus, if you ask me.

The goofy-footer with a lighting bolt on his board, whose surfing defined an era of wave-riding has resided in landlocked Bend, Oregon for decades, spending his winters carving the rolling, surfy terrain of Mount Bachelor. It’s here that he hosts an event which plays to snowboarding’s aquatic roots perhaps more than any other.

Now in its fifth year, the Big Wave Challenge is a spring contest paddling at the front of pack when it comes to snowboarding’s transition-based events. Watch the video and mind-surf the course.
