WHISTLER, BC – April 17, 2014 – The World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) descended on Whistler, BC April 11 and has been providing a steady stream of music, art, film, and ski and snowboard action ever since. The good news for people who have not yet made their way up to Whistler to check it out (or for those already there and who just cannot get enough) is the festivities continue right through this upcoming weekend. Here is a look at what still lies ahead at WSSF:

The World Skiing Invitational (WSI)/ Association Of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) World Championships – April 18 to 20
The WSI/AFP World Championships will be taking place on Whistler Blackcomb April 18 to 20. The Men’s Samsung Slopestyle Qualifiers will happen April 18 in the Nintendo Terrain Park on Blackcomb Mountain and the Men’s and Women’s Finals will happen on April 20.
The Gibbon’s Life Big Air will take place at the base of Whistler Mountain in Skier’s Plaza on Saturday, April 19 with Mat The Alien spinning on the Main Stage during warm ups from 7pm to 8pm. Qualifications and Finals will happen right afterwards between 8pm and 10pm.
Whistler DOGFEST – April 18 & 19
 
Whistler’s 17th annual DOGFEST celebration will be a two-day event this year at WSSF and will be in Whistler Village April 18 and 19. This year DOGFEST will feature the Northwest X-Treme Air Dog championships, Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADs) demonstrations, Canzcech Protection Dogs, Canadian K9 Bomb & Narcotics Detection demonstrations and Zen Dog training. The Air Dogs will offer a ‘Give it a try” option where the only requirement for entry is a dog and a tennis ball. Also new for this year, DOGFEST will be hosting Whistler’s first ever Walk Of Shame Dog Parade on April 18 at noon, where dogs and owners alike are invited to display their shame on a sign around their necks and then go for a walk along the Village Stroll.

The Colby James West Show – April 18
 
Taking place at the Whistler Conference Centre on April 18 at 5pm, The Colby James West Show is a new addition to the WSSF schedule and will see pro skier, Colby James West, trying his hand at hosting an action sports talk show. The event will feature professional athletes, celebrity guests, breaking news (kind of), wizardry, and comedic shenanigans, all in front of a live audience. One hundred free tickets will be available for pick up from the WSSF Will Call desk on Friday morning; the show will be filmed live and aired online starting April 22.

The OLYMPUS 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown ENCORE – April 18
 
The OLYMPUS 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown ENCORE was created for those people who missed out on tickets to the original OLYMPUS 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown event that took place on April 15. The same ten films will be shown as the original screening but at the ENCORE event the audience will decide who will take home the prize, not the judges.

Family Fun At WSSF In The Kidz Zone – April 18 to 20
 
With the second weekend of WSSF falling over Easter, WSSF has scheduled three full days of family-friendly fun from April 18 to 20 including bouncy castles, a Riglet Snowboard Jam by Showcase, balloon artists, arts & crafts, spontaneous dance parties and more.
The annual Mascot Mayhem will also be happening on April 18 in Village Square where Big Air Bear will be celebrating his 12th birthday will all his friends, and onSunday April 20 there will be a massive Easter Egg Hunt in Whistler Village. Over 5000 plastic Easter Eggs will be hidden and once found can be exchanged for chocolate eggs provided by Rocky Mountain Chocolate.

The King Of Diamonds Poker Rally on Whistler Blackcomb – April 19
 
On Saturday, April 19 the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation will be hosting the first ever King Of Diamonds Poker Rally. Participants are invited to ski/ride ten different black diamond runs on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains and after completing each run they will receive a playing card. At the end of the day the competitor with the best poker hand will win a 2014.2015 Whistler Blackcomb winter season pass.

Electrostub presents The END – April 19
 
The ultimate season-ender party, Electrostub presents The END, will carry on into the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, April 19. This year’s lineup of DJs includes Skratch Bastid from 10pm to 11:30pm, Mat The Alien from 11:30pm to 1am, Sleepy Tom from 1am to 2:30am, and headliner RUSKO from 2:30am to 4am.

Sea To Sky Walk A Mile In Her Shoes – April 20
 
The World Ski and Snowboard Festival has partnered with the Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society for the Sea To Sky Walk A Mile In Her Shoes. Taking place onSunday, April 20 in Whistler Village, the Sea To Sky Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is a fundraiser that invites participants to stand up against violence against women. Male participants will don a pair of red high heel shoes (provided) and will walk a mile along Whistler Village Stroll.  Participants are recommended to raise a minimum of $25 in pledges and 100 per cent of the proceeds support programs at the Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society.

Super BRAWL Sunday Roller Derby Bout – April 20
 
WSSF will be hosting Whistler’s second annual Roller Derby Bout on Sunday, April 20 in the Sea To Sky Ballroom at the Whistler Conference Centre. Whistler’s Black Diamond Betties will be taking on the Sunshine Coast Roller Girls with doors opening at 6pm and the first whistle sounding at 7pm. This year the bout’s flat track will be set up in the centre of the Sea to Sky Ballroom, with the teams stationed in the centre of the track and spectators ringing the outside.

Best Of The Fest – April 20
Best Of The Fest is a staple event at WSSF every year and recaps all the good times from the previous ten days. The winning shows from the OLYMPUS 72 Hour Filmmaker Showdown, Intersection presented by Bromley Baseboards and the OLYMPUS Pro Photographer Showdown will be shown and a DJ will be spinning to keep the good times rolling. Best Of The Fest is held at the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) and all proceeds go to Playground Builders, a charitable organization that builds safe play areas for children in underprivileged or war-torn regions.

Outdoor Concert Series
 
The amazing line-up of music at the Outdoor Concert Series will also continue right through to April 20. The free concerts scheduled for the final weekend of WSSF include Shapeshifter, Five Alarm Funk, The Original Wailers, Fort Knox Five, Lovecoast, Mat The Alien, and The Hairfarmers.
