Powder Update: Lake Tahoe Gets Its Best Snow Ever

Over the past few weeks Tahoe has experienced a heavy snow cycle with snow fall amounts reaching more than we've seen in years. We have been waiting out the snowfall, utilizing our time by hitting up resort powder days. With a break in the strom cycle we got our chance to ride.

We decided to adventure to one our favorite hiking spots. The original spot we decided on was too deep to ride, so we picked another one with a quicker pitch and easier access to any one who might be involved in a slide. It was partly cloudy with a mild wind when we got to there. We were stoked to check out the different lines and features to ride, but had the serious concern with the snow fracturing… it was just too deep to ride without setting any slides off.

Ben Meester was able to trigger a slide and it released at about a 2 foot crown. We soon realized that the snowpack was super unstable and that we had to take the time and be patient to find the right lines. It looked as though every line would involve a slide This was true on everyone's drop that day.

The entire zone slid after 6 consecutive slides, all about a foot to two feet deep. It's epic having this much snow, but we all need to be careful and watch over each other in conditions like this, even at the resorts. It's not safe what so ever out there right now, so we should all be patient and let this insane amount of snow settle.

Check out the photos to from the day and have fun out there!
