April 5, 2014- Keystone, CO – New Zealands’ Christy Prior took first place in Slopestyle Friday in the Community Cup 2014 presented by Volvo.  Friday and Saturday’s event took place in the A51 Terrain Park at Keystone Resort. Prior swept the event by also winning Best Method and the Rockn’ Rail. This whole event is focused on style, progression and sustainability

Originally planned for an all day Saturday competition, weather predictions encouraged riders to unanimously vote to move Slopestyle to Friday instead.  As the winds picked up in the afternoon the rider approved format allowed for the best Semi-Final score to be carried into Finals, benefitting both Šárka Pančochová (CZE) and Silje Norendal (NOR) who came in second and third respectively.

“I love this format as it truly reflects the best riding that happened that day- sometimes the weather changes for the worst in finals and does not reflect the best riding of the day”, stated Silje Norendal.

Chanelle Sladics, event creator voiced, “This 5-Star World Snowboard Tour stop prioritizes safety and progression for our athletes.  Partnering with Keystone Resort to make a legitimate but forgiving course transcended the riding level immediately. We had a lot of flexibility to cater to the ladies in regards to amount of competition runs, waiting on wind at drop in and agreeing on the format.”

Saturday, Community Cup executed a top caliber Big Air competition that was decorated with stylish 900s, 720s, rodeos, and doubles. Cheryl Maas (NED) set the pace with her backside 900, winning MVP and finishing in second place.  It was event co-creator Kjersti Buaas (NOR) that took home the win and Best Style with her Frontside 7 stalefish.  Finnish rookie Kristiina Nisula (FIN) placed third with a solid frontside rodeo 7 nosegrab.

An excited Kjersti Buaas, “All the ladies were full of smiles, and it was awesome to see such a focus on style and bringing out our best tricks right out of the gate. I was so happy to execute my 720 the way I did, and the result was a cherry on top.  As the oldest competitors, Cheryl and I were excited to share our connection to snowboarding to the younger generation.“

Finishing off Saturday’s on snow festivities was a Best Method presented GoPro that Christy Prior (NZ) dominated with both switch and regular methods.

Fifteen 2014 Sochi Olympic contenders competed in Community Cup 2014 including gold medal Slopestyle winner Jamie Andersen, “ I am so grateful to be part of a positive event like Community Cup- embracing sustainably, community, environmental awareness, and women’s snowboarding progression.”

Rounding out the event, was the Rockn’ Rail presented by Kicker Audio. Cheryl Maas in third place with a cab 270 on/270 out, Courtney Cox (USA) in second with an authoritative 50/50 frontside 3 out and winner Christy Prior with a frontside boardslide 270 out.
