The Road to Baker, Day 1: three dudes, one car — the pilgrimage to LBS begins

Every year for the past 28, tried and true boarders have made the migration up to Mt. Baker, WA to take part in snowboarding’s longest running contest, the Legendary Banked Slalom (LBS). A timeless tribute to ripping turns and bragging rights, the LBS provides an escape from the drama of commercialized snowboarding and a return to the roots of riding. As if any proof were needed, the LBS’ roster of winners reads like a who’s-who of legendary riders — from Shaun Palmer, who won the inaugural 1985 race, to Craig Kelly, Terje Haakonsen, Temple Cummins & Xavier de le Rue, to name just a few.

The time has come yet again for another round of LBS glory. We’re tagging along with Tucker Andrews, a born and bred, live-to-ride snowboarder and all around top-notch guy, as he hits the road in pursuit of banked turns and good times.

The annual pilgrimage to the LBS! What a journey. For years in the past I’ve made this trek in Han Solo fashion, but this year I hopped in with some damn good friends of mine to make the trip a hell of a lot more comical. Taylor Carlton and Timothy Eddy. Classic humans that really just enjoy a good time. Thus far we have bashed new skate parks, and enjoyed the views of Mt. Shasta and the Northern California Forests. Simply put, everything is better with pals. Especially road trippin’ to the LBS!

Party on.
