The first Olympic Slopestyle event in history has come and gone, and snowboarding might never be the same. Sage Kotsenburg, king of creative contest riding, Japan grabs and full circle euro-carves, took home the Gold, and the industry is blowing up every social media feed possible. Here are just a few of the gems we’ve seen today.

Slopestyle has officially been properly introduced to the world stage, and it could not have made a better first impression. Proving that style does ultimate trump technicality, Sage Kotsenburg has won the first ever Olympic Slopestyle Gold medal, also the first medal to be awarded at the 2014 Games.

Anything and everything a rider thinks will step up their game is thrown into the mix, and coaches are relied on more than ever. Ricky Bower has two Olympics under his belt as the coach of the US team, so I picked his brain on the ins and outs of managing meltdowns and guiding riders to the top of the podium.
