ASPEN SNOWMASS, Colo.—Feb. 19, 2015 — Aspen Snowmass welcomes spring with an abundance of free events across all four mountain resorts. From the second annual Red Bull Double Pipe taking place at Buttermilk, home of X Games Aspen, to the Umphrey’s McGee free performance in the heart of Aspen, to the return of the Banked Slalom at Snowmass, the four mountain peaks—Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk—not only offer over 5,547 acres of skiable terrain, but a consistent line-up of happenings throughout the month of March.

March Spring Events Schedule

15th Annual Bud Light Spring Jam
Mar. 13-29
Aspen Snowmass

The 15th annual Bud Light Spring Jam, the premier spring festival in the Rocky Mountains, will bring three weekends of competitions, downtown concerts and parties to Aspen Snowmass. The festival features everything from the 16th annual KickAspen Big Air, where skiers and snowboarders compete under the lights at the base of Aspen Mountain to free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concerts featuring Umphrey’s McGee, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Iration. Other events include the eighth annual Fallen Friends Memorial Event, Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls, the Banked Slalom and Terrain Park Boot Camp sessions that offer instruction on how to slide a box or hit a rail in a mini-park at Snowmass.

Red Bull Double Pipe
Mar. 11-12
Buttermilk

The Red Bull Double Pipe returns to Buttermilk Mountain for a second year. Two competition-spec halfpipes will be constructed side-by-side, complete with rails, wall rides, channels and unique features sprinkled throughout the custom built snow feature. Spectators are welcome to come out and watch the athletes ski/ride the unique terrain park set-up.

Bud Light CORE Party featuring Umphrey’s McGee

CORE Party is the most anticipated outdoor free concert of the season. Situated in the heart of downtown Aspen on the corner of Cooper Ave. and Galena St., the free block-party will feature Bud Light beer gardens as well as DJ Naka G hitting the stage at 6:30 p.m. followed by the main act Umphrey’s McGee. The free concert is part of the larger 15th annual Bud Light Spring Jam, a premier spring ski and snowboard festival in the Rocky Mountains. Umphrey’s McGee is an amalgam of progressive rock and jam band that hails from South Bend, Ind. They have been making music for 16 years which has resulted in 100 concerts annually, the release of seven studio albums and the sale of more than 3.3 million tracks online. Umphrey’s McGee will also perform two sold-out shows at Belly Up Aspen Mar. 12-13.

Terrain Park Boot Camp
Mar. 14-15, 21-22, & 28-29,
Snowmass

This free event taking place at Snowmass gives kids and adults alike a chance to learn the ropes of the terrain park. Professional coaches and athletes teach rails, jumps and boxes on features that are the perfect size for any beginner.

Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls

Aspen Highlands

Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls consists of teams of two racing to ski/ride the many bowls of Aspen Highlands as quickly and strategically as possible. The course is kept a secret until the morning of the race and teams can register into three different categories—Competitive Ski, Competitive Snowboard and Adventure. For each division, the course will be different with the adventure category offering a course designed for more intermediate level skiers and snowboarders. Each participant will be loaned a GPS device to track the chosen route. A party with awards, giveaways, food and beer will take place at the Highlands Alehouse after the race.

Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships

NASTAR, the largest public grassroots ski race program in the world, is proud to partner with Aspen Snowmass to host this marquee event. Skiers ranging across 45 states and ages ranging from three to 90 will converge to compete for national titles in various divisions. This event will serve as a celebration of the great sport of alpine skiing and a reunion for top recreational skiers throughout the country. Events will vary from race clinics, races, free concerts, autograph signing, Warren Miller screenings and more.

17th Annual KickAspen Big Air Invitational
Mar. 20
Aspen Mountain

The 17th Annual KickAspen Big Air night competition will feature 20 invited skiers and 20 invited snowboarders the opportunity to battle it out under the lights on a big air terrain park jump located at the base of Aspen Mountain. Athletes will compete to take home a portion of the large $7,000 prize purse that will be divvied up amongst first, second and third place finishers as well as the athletes that throw down the best trick in both skiing and snowboarding. For spectators, the event is free to watch and will include music by DJ Naka G and a Bud Light beer garden.

Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert Featuring Dirty Dozen Brass Band

Taking place the second weekend of the Bud Light Spring Jam, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band will perform live at 4:30 p.m. in the Snowmass Base Village. Matthew Moon will open the show at 3 p.m. at this free concert.

Banked Slalom
Mar. 21
Snowmass

Returning to Aspen Snowmass for the second year, the Banked Slalom is a snowboard only race held on upper Snowmass Mountain. The course will start at the top of Sandy Park and run down the Sandy Park flats with age divisions broken into 10 and under, and 16 and older for both men and women. Registration costs $25 per person.

Fallen Friends Memorial Event

Aspen Highlands

The eighth annual Fallen Friends Memorial Event will gather teams of two to five to compete in a course of jumps, bumps and park features on Scarlett’s Run at Aspen Highlands. The event will feature a DJ, announcers and food/drink specials on the deck at Merry-Go-Round restaurant. Teams are encouraged to dress in a costume and incorporate a common theme. All the proceeds from the event will benefit the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (AVSC) scholarship fund in honor of local fallen friends. Event registration costs $25 per person.

Iration
Mar. 27
Snowmass

Rounding out the final weekend of the Bud Light Spring Jam, Iration will perform at 4 p.m. in the Snowmass Base Village. Matthew Moon will open the show at 3 p.m. at this free concert.

Elk Mountain Grand Traverse
Mar. 28
Aspen to Crested Butte

This 40-mile backcountry ski race spans across an old mail route from the 1880’s that connects the towns of Aspen and Crested Butte. The race begins at midnight in Crested Butte and climbs more than 7,800 vertical feet before the extreme endurance event comes to an end in Aspen. In order to maintain safety, the race is done in teams of two and all racers must have the mandatory gear in order to compete. The Elk Mountain Grand Traverse has been a staple event since 1998 and truly tests athlete’s mental and physical toughness. Registration costs $400 per team.
