Last season we debuted our annual photo competition, Exposure, and had an overwhelming response from professional and amateur photographers alike. We also gave out a cool ten thousand dollars in prize money. Here at Snowboard Magazine, we see powerful photos every day, yet we were still exposed to some of the best shots of the year through the many submissions that we received. Needless to say, we are excited about round two.

Continuing our philosophy of not fixing what isn’t broken, we’ll be running Exposure with the same structure that it debuted with last season. We’re counting on you, our readers, to impress us once again with your work. The best images we receive will be filling the folds of our special print edition of Snowboard Magazine, The Exposure Issue, and will also be displayed at a gallery party celebrating great photography in snowboarding. Charge those batteries. Develop that film. The competition will be starting this Friday, November 10th, and running for four weeks, ending on Friday, December 8th.

Let’s see what you’ve got.

See below for more details about the competition, following some inspiration from last year’s winners.

What are the categories?

We have four categories: Abstract, Action, Scenic, and Lifestyle (as seen above in the same order). We’re a snowboarding magazine, so we want to see photos that are related to snow and mountain lifestyle. Don’t be afraid to get creative and take chances.

Who can enter?

Exposure is open to residents of the United States and Canada, excluding Quebec. Sorry international photographers, but your time will come.

Who are the judges?

Yours truly, the editors at Snowboard Mag. Don’t disappoint us.

What will you win?

We have $10,000 available in prize money. Each of the four category winners will get $1,000, and another $1,000 will go to the winner of the People’s Choice vote. The People’s Choice category will be narrowed down to the top 10 images by reader voting, and then our judges will choose the final winner. Once the five category winners are determined, the judging panel will select one Grand Prize winner from the pool of five winners, based on overall impression. The Grand Prize winner takes home the remaining $5,000.

How do you enter?

Ah, the fun part. Right now we have a timer on exposure.snowboardmag.com counting down to the start of the competition on November 10th. At that point you can upload as many photos to as many categories as you would like, but you can’t upload the same photo twice. Once we receive your photo, your entry will have a unique URL on the Exposure website. Then, get sharing. The ten photos with the most votes will be considered as our People’s Choice winner.
