Most of us aren’t professional snowboarders, and the odds tell us we never will be. But that’s totally fine. While they’re off in Alaska waiting weeks for a single bluebird day, some of you are taking chairlift-powered pow laps with your buds. Others are up early for a splitboard mission in solitude. Or hiking a rail line at your local park. The “how” part isn’t always important, but the “why” most certainly is.

However you decide to approach winter, what matters is that you’re having fun. Go out on the days when there isn’t a foot of fresh; the good days will feel that much better. Our friends at Coal live by this idea, that’s why they make something for everyone and not just those getting sick in AK. Maybe you see yourself in this video, messing around in the parking lot, ripping side hits with your friends, being soaked and still having a blast. Because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.

Coal Headwear invites your to approach winter with them this year. You can read below on how they embraced the variable conditions of the Pacific Northwest. We hope it inspires you to get out riding again this season.

Instead of traversing the globe in search of the perfect storm or steepest chutes, we sought out the most fun and accessible terrain in the Northwest. With the goal of creating an experience replicable by anyone, anywhere, we grabbed our friends, found a gully at the resort, and let the party boarding begin. We didn’t have perfect weather: our gloves became sponges, and our lenses fogged, but what we did have was the time of our lives. It reminded us that no matter how or where you snowboard—it’s the best way to Approach Winter.
