In today’s world, the idea of “freedom” or “being free” is a romantic notion that many chase but very few, if any, can say they accomplish. While this journey is both an inward and outward endeavor, a large reason for the inability to achieve true freedom comes down to the realities of living in the information age. Whether we are tethered to our phones, computers, or our jobs, there is often a looming sense of obligation keeping us from truly celebrating “freedom.” It seems that true freedom comes at the cost of being able to turn the rest of the world off. It is the ability to put everything holding you back to the wind, unplug and check out, even if only for a while.

Free, a new film from Wonderberry Pictures and the minds of Nick Russell, Wyatt and Cory Stasinos, is just that escape. Free is a four-year project, filmed entirely on 16mm and super 8 film. It is a journey back in time to simpler times, and a reminder of the essence of why we snowboard. The group, which includes cameos from Jeremy Jones and Forest Shearer, decided to unplug and live life on their own terms. With only a limited budget, the crew sets out to camp and splitboard around the globe on the never-ending search for adventure and fresh snow.

If you are around Tahoe City on October 27th make sure to check the out the world premiere. Tickets available at tahoearthauscinema.com
