To evolve, we must first understand our past. The history of snowboarding spans far beyond North America. In Petran, Turkey, for example, people have been snowboarding for nearly 300 years. It is an iteration of snowboarding that looks quite different from what we know today but it utilizes snowboarding’s core principles.

In WRKSHRT’s 2016 film Foothills: The Unlinked Heritage of Snowboarding, snowboarders Alex Yoder and Nick Russell explore Turkey’s Kaçkar Mountains. Deep in Turkey’s pastoral, snow-buried mountain villages, they connect the dots between snowboarding’s past and present.
