There is much, much more to Japan than deep snow. Stories that emerge from the Land of the Rising Sun often focus the narrative on sweeping turns through open glades, or airing off pillows into near bottomless landings. Without any doubt, the snowboarding is incredible. But what Japan truly special is how this lifestyle has become woven into Japanese culture.
An onsen is a Japanese bathhouse, with water sourced from the countless hot springs throughout the country. Bathing in these springs is a time-honored tradition, and it is the basis of Statements: Onsen tour. After many years of traveling to this country, Antti Autti decided it was time to share why it was more than snowboarding that kept him coming to Japan. With honorary local Neil Hartmann and Shinya Nakagawa as guides, they took Antti, Enni Rukajärvi, and Nicholas Wolken on a tour of these rejuvenating waters and celebrate an eons-old tradition in Japanese culture.
