Snowboard Olympian Hailey Langland (a.k.a. Yung Hails), 18, was among the 52 athletes nominated to represent the U.S. at the FIS Junior Freeskiing & Snowboard World Championships. She was set to lead the snowboard team at that competition, August 24 to September 8 at Cardrona in Wanaka, New Zealand. Cardrona has been good to Yung Hails. She landed her first career World Cup slopestyle podium there in 2015. But that’s just one feat in the young snowboarder’s quiver. Here she is at the 2017 X Games in Aspen, landing a cab double cork 1080. That made her the first woman to land that trick in the X Games, and it took her from seventh place to gold.

On Tuesday, Langland informed us about a change of plans. She will not be headed to Cardrona in the coming days so she can recover from surgery for a torn labrum. “I’m super sad but I am doing everything I can to get in shape and get strong for this upcoming season,” she told Snowboard Mag.

Given her display of strength and resilience in this clip, we’re confident she’ll be back on her deck getting sideways this winter. Sending you healing vibes, Yung Hails!
