Keystone, Colo. — Nov. 6, 2014 — Following the announcement that the resort will open for the 2014-15 winter season tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 7, today Keystone Resort announced it will make 50 acres of skiable terrain available for guests with top-to-bottom skiing and riding.

Skiers and riders will have access to the River Run Gondola and Montezuma lifts to enjoy early season conditions on Spring Dipper, while novice snow enthusiasts can take advantage of a beginner area on Endeavor, complete with uphill access via the Ranger lift. The River Run trail will be open, providing base area access. Skiers and riders are urged to enjoy 1589 vertical feet of terrain from the Montezuma lift for lapping, utilizing the River Run trail as their last run of the day.

Although unseasonably warm conditions stalled snowmaking efforts for much of October, the resort’s team was able to take advantage of near ideal snowmaking conditions overnight Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Strong production during the early part of the week will help provide guests the best possible early season snow conditions beginning Friday.

Keystone’s award-winning A51 Terrain Park crew did make the difficult decision this week to delay the opening of its early season park. In order to offer guests the kind of quality they have come to expect from A51, the team will take advantage of on-going snowmaking efforts and will make features available just as soon as possible. Fans can stay up-to-date on progress on the resort’s blog and A51 Facebook page.

Off-mountain, guests will be treated to a variety of animation this weekend to celebrate the beginning of another exciting winter season. Skiers and riders awaiting the first chair of the season, scheduled for 9 a.m., will have the chance to take home great giveaways, as well as enjoy free coffee and hot chocolate and donut treats from Keystone Executive Pastry Chef Ned Archibald. Kids of all ages will enjoy free activities in the gondola plaza base area, including a bungee trampoline, climbing wall and bounce house. The family-friendly activities will be available 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Additional weekend activities will include a showing of “Muppets Most Wanted” at Keystone’s Kidtopia Headquarters, two presentations of Unicorn Picnic’s groundbreaking all-female ski and snowboard film, “Pretty Faces” and free photos from the resort’s EpicMix photo team including on-site prints.

Keystone’s mountain operations teams will continue to work towards expanding terrain as quickly as possible. Long-term forecasts are calling for a return to more seasonable temperatures early next week, and the snowmaking team will take advantage of any and all opportunities to make snow across a variety of terrain.
