Some people are just good at everything. Some snowboards are too.

There is no such thing as a quiver-killer. A quiver-bruiser, definitely. But not a killer. No single board can negate the advantages of a variety, each tailored to specific conditions. Of course, the greater the variation in where you’re riding determines your necessity to vary what you’re riding. If you spend every day lapping your favorite run at your local resort, one board may be all you need.

But certain boards are also better suited to riding a broader terrain spectrum than others. And a good all-mountain board, like the ones below, will float through a fresh foot in the morning, plow through chunder in the afternoon and remain playful enough for a hotlap through the park — on your way to the trees to search for what’s left of those twelve inches.

We believe the boards below are both an ideal foundation upon which to build a quiver, or the perfect standalone purchase to put through the wringer day in and day out.

Lib Tech Scott E. Wittlake

Lib Tech Scott E. Wittlake

MSRP: $579.95

lib-tech.com
This is the greenest snowboard ever made. Seriously, everything on Scotty’s board aside from the metal edge is some verdant tone. It’s also constructed of the most progressive and eco-friendly materials Mervin could get their experimental hands on. Wittlake’s pro model is the tangible product of decades spent on snow by one of snowboarding’s greats. It features a tapered shape and camber-dominant profile with a touch of rocker between the inserts to loosen the ride up just a hair.

How do you tame a girl with a wild heart? Give her something she can’t get enough of — like a really good snowboard. Leanne Pelosi’s board is a directional freestyle stick with a substantial spooned out nose to float a girl through the steepest and deepest.

Whitegold Proto

Whitegold Proto

MSRP: $650.00

bataleon.com/whitegold
Our theory on crowdfunding here at Snowboard Mag is this: You’ve got one shot before it becomes obnoxious. Make it a good one. Crowdsourcing is a different story. The +U Program utilizes crowdsourcing to concoct the formula for the Proto each season, and we think that’s rad. If you offer your feedback they’ll also give you a voucher for 35% next year’s model. This directional, all-mountain board featuring TripleBase Technology in the nose and tail is truly a product of input from its riders — not only those on the team and in the R&D department, but anyone who’s ridden the board and has an interest in playing a role in the design process.

Jones Ultra Mountain Twin

Jones Ultra Mountain Twin

MSRP: $579.00

jonessnowboards.com
Don’t judge a book by its cover. And don’t judge a board by the brand on its base. Jones’ Ultra Mountain Twin doesn’t just excel in the backcountry, but also in the park and everywhere in between. This is high end, twin-tip, all-mountain ripper is equally comfortable on a down-flat-down as it is smashing through a pillow-line.

DC Supernatant

DC Supernatant

MSRP: $ 499.00

Natant is an adjective that means floating. There, you learned something. And Devun Walsh has learned something about what he wants in a snowboard. Decades of experience in the backcountry and numerous pro models to his name have taught Devun a thing or two about what goes into the creation of an exceptionally versatile ride. The Supernatant is the result of years of Walsh’s refinement of the perfect all-mountain machine.

D-Day Eric Messier

D-Day Messier

MSRP: $560.00

d-daysnowboards.com
Eric Messier is a good dude — one who abides by the philosophy that the whole mountain is a park. His pro model is designed to be ridden accordingly. Messy’s directional board features a unique nose and tail shape, positive camber profile and a sintered base.
