Peetu Piiroinen would be lumped into the category of snowboarders known as ‘contest riders’. It is a label not inherently negative, but one most are not eager to stamp themselves with. In this edit, aptly titled ‘Insights’, Peetu provides his honest take on snowboarding as a whole, praising the progression the quad cork represents, not denouncing it as many have. He also brushes the sugar coating off of what it means to snowboard for a living. In an industry obsessed with selling the concept of ‘fun’ — and rightfully so, because that’s what snowboarding should be — it is at least refreshing to hear someone still collecting a paycheck for riding a snowboard, admit that the pressures of getting paid to do something can sometimes hinder the enjoyment of it.
