Duh. The Rome Stale Crewzer is not only in our favorite boards of the year, but the decade.
It says it in the name: Crewz, like Ståle Sandbech. We’ve all seen how good he looks while riding; who wouldn’t want that? You can’t really go wrong with a pro model or signature series these days. They are an honor in rarified air, and if someone that good at snowboarding is down to put their name on it, chances are it’s a pretty solid board. But if Ståle’s cosign isn’t enough, and you want to read our take for some reason, continue on.
We have spoken highly of this board before, but it didn’t earn this year’s Platinum Pick moniker because there’s nothing new on the market. It’s because the Crewzer keeps getting better. The directional twin has a new shape for 2025, with the same trusted Carbon HotRods that have cemented themselves into Ståle’s daily strapped-in life. The amount of snap and stability should make this a staple in the diet of anyone who enjoys eating whatever they want all over the mountain, and the surfy feel is just the cherry on top. We rode this and the Stale Fish (Sandbech’s other namesake board from Rome) this season, and maybe we just weren’t feeling seafood as much the day we all voted, because the Crewzer got the nod from the whole crew. That isn’t to say the Fish wasn’t cooked to perfection, but the tide was a little low this winter and the Crewzer swam a bit farther in choppy water, if you catch our drift. It holds up great in deep water, but it’s got a sporty feel that makes you want to just rip. It also comes in a wide model if you need a bit more for your feet, but the regular width offers plenty of float. Oh, and the graphic is pretty fuckin’ sick too. One look down and you are ready to go stormboarding with the crew.
