In 2005, Slovenian rider Marko “Grilo” Grilc made an impression on the snowboarding world at large with his appearance in 91 Words for Snow and from that point on, the rest of snowboarding was clued into what Burton had known since 1997 when he joined their team: Grilo was an all-terrain stand out and a stand up individual, too. In addition video parts with Standard and the Pirates; medals at X Games, Air & Style, and more; and popular web series Grilosodes, Grilo evolved into a second chapter of life as a devoted and loving father—a role that influenced his snowboarding greatly.
Grilo left us far too soon, but his legacy will forever be rooted firmly in the mountains, and in honor of his impact, in 2023, Burton introduced the Gril Master, a limited edition release sized for both adults and kids. For 2024, the board is now an in-line addition to the Family Tree.
With a striking gold topsheet and a directional camber profile, the Gril Master is fine-tuned and fun to ride. It holds a firm edge while carving, yet doesn’t feel too stiff. And much like Grilo’s riding style, the board is designed to perform in the widest variety of conditions, from mellow cruisers with the family all the way to high-performance freestyle (both in bounds and out) that Grilo was most famous for.
