Words/Photos: Binky Squaw Valley, U.S.A. last weekend at the Olympic Village Inn, friends and family of Derek Morg came together to help raise money for his upcoming bone marrow surgery to treat the Hodgkin’s Lymphoma that he was diagnosed with this year. For those of you that don’t know Derek, he is the owner and operator of Fritz’s Bar in Reno. Home of the best snowboard movie premiere’s and wildest nights in Reno. There have been a series of six benefits for Derek and his friends keep coming out to show our support. He has done so much for us and snowboarding over the years that we were stoked to see him and party the way he taught us. This party also had the bands Misfritz and Ming and Ping playing throughout the night along with a raffle with tons of gear, all proceeds going to the Derek Morg Fund. Derek is the lead singer of Misfritz. The worlds drunkest Misfits cover band. It was a pretty sweet night. Here’s the action. Derek Morg with his girlfriend Kara, and Oakley’s Liesel. Oakley came through huge. Wara, Smokin Jay, Shawn Farmer, and Savannah from Squaw Valley USA Mike Hatchett from Standard Films, Smokin Jay, Derek Morg The Raffle, tons of gear given away by Volcom, Oakley, Armada, Smokin Snowboards, and more. I won some Oakley Frogskins and 50 bucks to the Tourist Club Bar in Truckee. Sweet. This cougar bought a bunch of tickets and won a ton. Mike Hatchett won a Smokin Snowboard. Misfritz. Derek had a 3 day session of chemotherepy 2 days before this and he sounded amazing. Misfritz with Chapin. Chapin and We Ain’t Saints Productions threw the benefit. Great times. Shawn Farmer clearing the pit. It got gnarly for a minute… but then the booze hit everyone hard… A few of the Regulars came up from Reno to party with Derek. It was like Fritz’s was still open. June Mountain’s Jeremy Cooper and Liesel from Oakley. Cathy from Out of Bounds and Lindsay from Fritz’s. Ming and Ping. Ming Sings, Ping is the Dancing Monkey. Great show and crazy stage presence. Things get wild with Ming and Ping. The drummer for BeerCan, Misfritz, and Ming and Ping. Jaime Can. He kills it… If you have never been to a Ming and Ping show, it has a full length video performance previously recorded that he sings along with the video and talks to the screen in between the songs. They get pretty spicy. I want to thank everyone who came out to show their support and a huge thanks to Quiksilver, Oakley, Volcom, Smokin Snowboards, Armada, T-Club, We Ain’t Saints Productions, Olympic Village Inn, Squaw Valley USA, Dakine, and everyone I left out mistakenly… Misfritz and Ming and Ping killed it.
