But there is some stuff out there that is lasting. I think the Burton Presents are put together well enough to bear repeat viewings.
Yeah I feel so lucky with that because so many great riders don’t have any projects to work for any more. So it’s awesome they give us an opportunity like that. I’m super grateful. But maybe that’s why all these edits come out is because they are way cheaper and anyone can go out with a filmer and just do their thing and put out a full part.

On the hunt.

Now your old pal Jussi has retired. What was it like spending the last few seasons riding with him?
It’s been so amazing to ride with him and feed off him. Not only with snowboarding but just life stuff. He’s such a smart and generous dude. So it was crazy to see the official announcement even though he told me a long time ago. I learned a lot from him and hopefully I can pass it on in some way. I definitely had my best years on a snowboard next to that guy. It just shows his personality — the way he went out was all him, so proper.

That must be good inspiration for you given his age and all that.
I think a lot of pro snowboards are just stoked to get a paycheck, like “I’m gonna live it up man!” But if you look at that paycheck in a way that represents the fact that you actually get to snowboard all the time for a living, it’s way better in my opinion. Guys like him, Jeremy Jones, Devun Walsh, these are the guys we need to be looking up to.

Mikey and Jussi Oksanen have spent countless days in the backcountry together, and their riding shows for it.

If snowboarding were school, what grade are you in?
Good question! I feel like, maybe junior high but I probably failed a couple grades up to that point because I was lazy a little bit.

And what have your grades been like?
Like I said I think there might have been a couple classes I failed because I didn’t take care of myself, but these past few season I might have picked up the slack a little bit. I’ve been getting paid to snowboard since I was 14 so I have been doing it for a while but I can’t say with any confidence that I’m in grade 11 or 12 yet…I still have a lot to learn.
