Kjersti Buaas is a competitive snowboarder. There is no argument to that. But what there is an argument for is how she breaks any stigmas about how contest riders allegedly lack in style and make up for it with spins. The Norwegian Olympian, X Games medalist, US Open medalist—and pretty much every major title out there in women’s snowboarding—has repeatedly proven that style can be the determining factor for a contest win. Her prowess over the years has solidified her as more than just a competitor, she has become a leader, mentor, and icon for what it means to truly produce phenomenal snowboarding.

Japan airs, poked-out melons, shiftys, a front three that you could watch all day long—her bag of tricks is deep and refined, an antithesis to the big spins that have become the norm in a traditional snowboarding contest. Last year she took to the Big Air competition at Community Cup, earning a win and first big air title for women in recent memory. Expect to see many more big things from Kjersti Buaas as she continues to lead by example for the many ladies climbing the ranks in women’s snowboarding by co-founding Community Cup with Chanelle Sladics.

This year she put had an exceptional performance at the Suzuki Nine Queens event in Livigno, Italy, further establishing her position in the upper echelon of women riders.

What is the Community Cup? It is a place for female riders to join together to intertwine snowboarding, music, community and sustainability is interwoven into one single experience. The concept was created from professional riders Chanelle Sladics and Kjersti Buaas to show that it was time for a progressive event based that is designed by women, for women. By bringing together some of the best riders in the world on a course meant specifically for them, it resulted in positivity, progression and a zero-waste mentality that made the Community Cup a truly remarkable experience.
