First Impression. Whitespace is a newer brand, and having never ridden their gear before, my expectations were admittedly low. From cat-track hits to spring slashing off the backside, the long run provided plenty of opportunities to test its carvability. It was immediately lively and stable—a super fun first lap.

Toe vs. Heel Edge Hold

  • Toe Edge: Exceptional bite and support. It handles aggressive carves with ease and feels very secure through the apex of the turn.
  • Heel Edge: It’s stiff enough to support aggressive, deep turns without washing out

Edge Transition. ”Energy” is the word I keep coming back to. The MAAX is incredibly lively allowing you to jump quickly from one edge to the next.

Drive Out of Turns. While it offers a solid exit, the real magic is how it carries energy through the entire arc.

Stability at Speed. It feels incredibly composed at high velocity, soaking up variable conditions without twitchiness. It’s a deck that encourages you to push your limits.

Fun Factor. There is a magical quality to this board—it’s playful yet aggressive. After just a couple of hours, I didn’t want to put it down—which goes a long way in my book.

Overall Impression The Whitespace MAAX was a standout that completely blew away my initial expectations. It is the go-to board for former Olympian JJ Thomas, and that pedigree shows. It performs at the highest level but remains approachable enough for a wide range of riders.

Where it shines:

  • Terrain: All-terrain. Steeps, park, and groomers.
  • Speed: Loves to be ridden fast and aggressively, though it remains fun at lower speeds.
  • Turn Radius: Versatile. Medium turns were best

Who is this board for? Intermediate to pro-level riders who want a lively, energetic deck that can handle aggressive carving while remaining playful.
