Performance Review
First Impression. This board was love at first sight. The first thing that grabbed me was the ’90s-inspired shape, featuring a super steep nose and tail. When I finally got it under my feet, it took a second to get used to the unfamiliar profile, but once I did, I felt like Shaun Palmer in 1996.
Edge Hold. The edge hold is exceptional. It provides a powerful, locked-in sensation that allows you to drive through carves with total confidence. Even on a slushy spring day at Mammoth, the board stayed composed and tracked beautifully.
Edge Transition. Once you find the rhythm of the unique profile, the transitions are sharp and purposeful. It’s a “tight” feeling board that moves from edge to edge with precision.
Drive // Pop. The flex on this board is a perfect “al dente”—the sweet spot between soft and stiff. It feels powerful but remains playful. There is a significant amount of energy stored in the core that snaps you out of every turn, making the board feel alive.
Nimbleness & Predictability. While the profile was unfamiliar at first, it becomes highly predictable once you adapt. It changed the way I rode the mountain; I started doing weird grabs and Smith grinds.
Stability at Speed. Stability is a hallmark of the Mystery Lunch. It handles high-speed charging through slush and variable terrain without flinching.
Fun Factor. Riding this board changed something in me. It’s a retro-style board with modern performance that just makes you want to have a good time.
The Deep Dive
Who is this board for? More experienced riders looking for a high-performing, unique ride. It’s for the person who wants modern tech but misses the soul and style of mid-90s snowboarding.
Overall Impression The Sims Mystery Lunch is a unique blend of heritage aesthetics and modern-day firepower. It’s a high-performing “retro” deck that doesn’t just look the part—it rips. With its medium/stiff flex and steep kick-tails, it offers a powerful, energetic ride that encourages creative, aggressive, and slightly unconventional snowboarding.
