We had the privilege of testing the new Patagonia PowSlayer line at Silverton, CO with the entire resort to ourselves. Tested during mid-winter conditions, we found the jacket to live up the standards that we’d expect from Patagonia. It’s a premium backcountry or resort jacket with all the important bells and whistles of a top-tier technical piece. Built with a 3-layer GORE-TEX Pro ePE shell, it delivers exceptional waterproof, breathable, and windproof protection while remaining very lightweight and packable — ideal for long days in variable mountain weather.

One of the standout features is the helmet-compatible fixed hood with hidden stretch panels, allowing easy use over a helmet without compromising a snug fit. The jacket also includes ample waterproof pockets (chest, handwarmer, arm, and internal stash options), pit zips for ventilation, a low-profile powder skirt, and a RECCO reflector for added safety in avalanche prone terrain. When it comes to technical outerwear that demands durability and performance, the PowSlayer jacket is as good as it gets. While it does come with an above average price tag, its warranted knowing this jacket will last multiple seasons.
