It seems like “crews” in snowboarding are making a comeback. We got the Dustbox, TDI and a smattering of local squads on the come up and it feels to me like generations past where rising tides raise all ships. Crews are a feeling, rather than a single person, bringing with it the vibe and tone of an entire grouping of snowboarders, and quite frankly, I think they are one of the sickest things about our culture. Enter Shmobb, a young, hungry Canadian crew that has been terrorizing terrain across western BC for the past few winters. Recently, we got a chance to catch up with a few members of this soon-to-be infamous group for a catch-up about the Wildcats crew, what they’ve been up to and what’s to come in the future.

Please state your name and where you’re from.
TS: Truth Smith and I’m from Whistler.
CC: Caleb Chomlack, Whistler BC.
S: I think my name is Sven and I am from Sweden.
DK-M: Dashiell Klebe-McCulloch from Whistler, BC.
Describe Shmobb in five words or less.
TS: A family created through snowboarding.
CC: Homies boarding till death.
S: This is a hard question.
DK-M: A brotherhood of creation, passion and friendship.
Many have likened you all to the second coming of the famed Wildcats crew from back in the day. Do you agree and can you name the entire Wildcats crew?
TS: Damnnn, that’s sick I’ve never heard that but that means a lot. I agree to an extent, I just don’t think we party as hard as they did ha. JF Pelchat, Devun Walsh, Kale Stephens, Tadashi Fuse, Chris Brown, DCP…there’s definitely more.
CC: Tadashi, Eero, Chris Brown, Miley LeBlanc, Bjorn, probably more, haha. But JF and Devun had the biggest impact on me as a human and a boarder, big shouts to them.
S: Wooooaah! That is an honour to hear, but we are definitely not as wild as they were…yet. Yes, I can name the entire crew.
DK-M: I don’t think we party quite as hard, but that’s a huge compliment.
Who is the greatest Whistler pro of all time?
TS: Man, there are a lot of incredible boarders from Whis. Chris Rasman is pretty incredible…Canadian T-Rice
CC: Layne Treeter. I don’t know if that counts but he lives here now…or E-Man. Both goats.
S: The Wildcats, can I do that?
DK-M: Darcy sharpe.
Airhole has been a huge proponent of your crew. Describe the role their support has played in the recognition of your crew.
TS: It’s been cool to collab with them recently and have their support in what we are trying to do!
CC: Yea Airhole has done so much for us. The first company to show us support, and it means the world to have our graphic on a product and to me as an artist, a big check on the bucket list. Shout out to Max and Isami.
S: It’s really dope to have the support we have from Airhole to help us get our name out there and reach new audiences. Thanks, Airhole!
DK-M: Airhole has been extremely supportive to Shmobb through and through. Helping us out with gear and photos. Hoping we can continue to build up our relationship and excited for our future together.
Why doesn’t snowboarding have as many crews as it used to?
TS: I don’t know. I feel like crews are coming back, which is really cool to see
CC: I think everyone wants to be the “star” nowadays but it’s starting to look like it’s coming back over the past couple years. I’ve been seeing soooo many vids by crews I never knew, so hopefully that carries on!
S: I feel like snowboarding went through a period where crews kind of disappeared and there were very few, but I think right now we are seeing a lot of crews again and its dope.
DK-M: I think the whole deal with snowboard crews is that it has to be natural you know? You have to love and know the people you’re with. You can’t force it.
Lastly, what is the plan for Shmobb as the snow starts to fly in the US and Canada?
TS: To board with the homies, stack clips, travel around and hopefully have a video to release next year!
CC: We are plannigg by to make a movie! Something no one has ever seen before. Keep your eyes peeled, the boys are going ham this year.
S: Go snowboarding with the crew and stack some clips!
DK-M: Big plans coming from Shmobb this year. We are looking to drop more full-length movies and stack clips.
