Two things are true of all snowboard premieres. They will never start on time, and people will get drunk. Friday night, Snowboard Magazine hosted a party at Big Willie’s in Salt Lake City to premiere “Broken Mechanism,” a short film about Bode Merrill. The flyers said the video was going to play at 8 pm. It played at 10. We said we were going be at the mountain Saturday by 10 am. We got there at 1.

Being the hub it is for snowboarders and snowboarding, Salt Lake City’s snowboard crowd came out in droves to drink beer, hang out with their friends, smoke cigarettes, watch a short film or win free stuff from Salomon, Billabong, Dang Shades and anon. — some checked all of those off the list, while DJ Matty Mo kept the beats bumpin’.

“Broken Mechanism” is a film by Snowboard Magazine and Cody Rosenthal that looks at the riding and person who has played a pivotal role in setting the bar for modern snowboarding. After the video premiered, Cody cued up a surprise for the crowd — the Skeleton Crew video that never made it to the internet.

Thank you to everyone who came out. We had a great time, and we hope you did too.

Stay tuned for “Broken Mechanism”, dropping tomorrow on snowboardmag.com
