Disposables 003: Moments in time from The 31st Legendary Banked Slalom
We can’t get enough of the feeling of disposable cameras. It is a combination of having limited exposures, being fast, light, easy to use, and perhaps most importantly the completely unique aesthetic retained in each image. At Snowboard Mag, we are attracted to each and every one of these qualities, and what began as a fun habit quickly developed into a ritual for each trip we embark on. Disposables, is a new photo series featuring photos from our travels. Moments in time from when we hop on a plane until we warily unpack our bags. They aren’t all in focus or properly exposed, and they aren’t all great images; but each and every photo speaks to experience, and the many fragmented moments that together constitute travel and adventure.
Our third installment of Disposables, chronicles our time spent in Glacier, Washington, for The 31st Legendary Banked Slalom. The LBS is an iconic event in snowboarding, and brings elite riders and industry leaders from all over the world together for a race that is simply focused on our most fundamental skill. The turn. Because of this, The Legendary Banked Slalom acts as a reset button for participants, and is a welcome return to the foundation of our shared passion.
This year, the LBS was ravaged by storms that brought snow, rain, and more snow. Inclement conditions forced road and mountain closures, leaving many stranded, and others without the ability to re-stock supplies. Power outages lasted throughout the week, and left many without the ability to not only connect with the outside world, but even with those present in Glacier. We unplugged, gathered candles for light, kindling for fires, and immersed ourselves in the moment.
Through experience, we learned that one truth will forever hold true at The Legendary Banked Slalom, and that is that no weather, no matter how wet, can dampen the race experience. Below is a collection of snapshots from our time in Glacier, candid moments in time that together constitute experience and adventure.
