Red Bull in hand, Johnny Lazz pullin’ some ill biz. Words by Tawnya Schultz Photos by Binky If you read the Eddie Wall interview from last week (which you should have) then you already know about what’s up with the first ever Eddie Wall Ride Invitational. If not, here’s what went down yesterday in Mammoth. Weekend Snowboards rider Eddie Wall, a Mammoth loc for some time now, and one of my personal favorite snowboarders, has been working on an event consisting of all wall rides (ironically because Eddie is a super dope wall ride slayer, and well, because his last name happens to be Wall. Weird, we know.) After a few years in the making, Eddie and Mammoth Park Master, Oren Tanzer, deisgned a legit wall ride park more of less consisting of five features with various ways of hitting each section, making for one of the most entertaining setups to date.
First though we must rewind to the previous night. The contest was postponed a day due to weather and since an after party was already planned everyone turned the night into a preparty instead. Mammoth hasn’t seen the likes of so many famous faces together in one place in quite some time. Andreas Wiig, Pat Moore, JP Walker, Peter Line, Eddie Wall, Greg Bretz, Lucas Magoon, Joe Sexton, Mason and Molly Aguirre, Elena Hight, were all in the mix, just to name a few. Everyone gathered at the local sushi spot, Sushi Rei for some food and bevs and a reunion of sorts. After some grub and rehashing memories for a bit, everyone moved to Hyde Lounge in the Mammoth Village. Hyde’s original Hollywood location is a celeb hotspot, extremly difficult to get into (you know, the whole Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan crew.) The new Mammoth location is a little slice of Hollywood in the mountains. Although waaay easier to get into, the sheek décor, bottle service, and top 40 party DJ music make it the place to party like royalty in Mammoth. Hyde filled up in no time and everyone drank the night away making for an interesting morning before the Eddie Wall Ride. Luckily the comp didn’t start til 12pm. Good planning.

Sketchy D was paroozing too just like old times.
Mad peeps. For three hours, approximately 30 dudes rallied the setup for a sideline of fans and paparazzi. The vibe was super mellow with the guys hitting the course at their leisure, riding the lift to the Main Park and through the gates to the setup. Eddie Wall was riding, although not judged in the event, he was showing his homies how it’s done. The Wall Ride was rider judged and in the end it was Flow shred from Jersey, Tim Humphreys, who took the win, with Brandon Hobush in second and Forest Bailey in third. Best trick went to Forum legend, Peter Line, who still has the skills to put the young kids to shame, winning an iPad for his efforts. Scott Blum took second place honors in the best trick category winning an iPad as well. All in all, just another sunny and sick day in Mammoth making for perfect conditions for the inagural Eddie Wall Ride Invitational. Stay tuned for a post on the 9th annual West Coast Invite Rail Jam, Saturday night. Burton rider and Minnesota loc, Ryan Paul won 10 G’s with a front flip onto a down rail, 50/50, 180 out. Seriously! You won’t wanna miss this.
