Dominic Zimmermann

For someone that was raised with a snowboard under his feet in Switzerland, it comes as no surprise that Dominic Zimmermann, aka Howzee, has established himself among the elite photographers in the Alps as well as the mountains and streets beyond. Looking at his images, you are immediately transported to that singular moment in space and time, as if his photos were a living, breathing thing.

He is a perfect example in the power of simplicity. In the fleeting milliseconds of raw emotion that we constantly find ourselves in without consciously knowing, Dominic can capture these moments as if he knows when they are coming. That’s something that a book cannot teach and a better camera cannot strengthen. It’s that heightened sense of awareness that only the most talented of photographers possess, the cognizant ability of exactly when to press the shutter, that Dominic has perfected.

Living in Zurich, Switzerland, Dominic travels with the Alps’ top vanguard of riders, including Nicolas Müller, DBK, Christian Haller, Stephan Maurer and countless others that visit his home while on film expeditions.

If you need inspiration, be sure to scroll through the jaw-dropping feed of Howzee’s Tumblr and, of course, hit him with a follow on Instagram.

About Focal Point:

This photo essay series was designed to exhibit the countless photos that do not make it into the incredibly competitive pages of snowboarding magazines. Photos can be published or unpublished, taken 10 years ago or last season. Photographers are given up to 17 photographic categories to meet, each with the goal of showing a different aspect of life in snowboarding. All captions are written by the photographer.
